Am writing to let you know that I was informed on Tuesday 26th February that Gurnard Cliff Wood is under offer with a private buyer – sold subject to contract.
As IOW Beauty in Perpetuity we have been to date raising pledges with the hope of being able to buy the wood, as a community, to conserve and enhance and share for generations to come.
We always knew that time would be of the essence and despite knowing that offers were coming in for the land we were not, sadly, in a position this week to make an offer that would satisfy the needs / wants of the vendors. I would however like to reiterate my thanks to all those generous folks who had pledged towards a possible purchase of the wood.
So the focus of our work is now on ensuring that community access to the woodland is retained by registering the well worn path through Gurnard Cliff Wood as a public footpath, to be part of the definitive map.
If you still walk, or have walked, through the wood periodically AT ANY TIME IN THE LAST 40+ YEARS please do contribute to getting the path established as a formal public footpath so it can continue to be enjoyed for the next 40+ years.Â
Join others, who have walked the woods over the years (since the 1960’s!) or presently who have already completed forms to state this.
