Registering Gurnard Cliff Wood footpath

Updated: Feb 23, 2019

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE in keeping community access to this woodland.

One of the outcomes of IOW Beauty in Perpetuity looking to buy the Gurnard Cliff Wood is that many people have come forward to say that they have used the footpath over many years. The footpath goes through the woods from the sharp bend in Worsley Road down through the woods to the public beach. Hence in conjunction with advice from the Rambler's Association members of the local community have started to complete a 'Public Right of Way User Evidence Statement forms' in order to formally establish the status of the path.

If you, or anyone in your family, has been using the footpath for any period of time then please fill out a form BY WEDNESDAY 8th MARCH to say when (for example, daily to walk my dog, weekly, monthly, in the summers to get to the beach, once a week / month in the years on which I lived on the island ...)

There is no requirement for the same person to have periodically used the path for twenty years (although a number of Gurnard residents have!); just that the path has been open for use for 20 years and has been used by the Community in that time without prevention.

So, if you have used the path, for however long, please complete a form as this shows the real, regular use that the path has had over many years.

You can pick up a paper copy of the form from Gurnard Press 31 Worsley Road, Gurnard , Isle of Wight, PO31 8JW or All Saints Church Tuttons Hill, Gurnard, Isle of Wight, PO31 8JA. Or get in touch via the contact form or email in order that we can email you the form. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you require any assistance in how to go about completing the form.

Completed forms can be handed into Gurnard Press or posted to 52 Pallance Road, Cowes, Isle of Wight PO31 8LW.

Here is the aerial view showing the route of the path as it goes down through the wood:

In the end, we can ensure community access to Gurnard Cliff Wood is enabled by registering this footpath. It will then be added to the Isle of Wight Definitive Map of footpaths as well.

Please do share this link with others who have used this footpath over the years. Thank you. We look forward to hearing from you.
